“My new colours for Autumn are very dull”, says Mary Quant. “But you’ve never seem such great dull colours before”. It’s funny, I almost bypassed this ad because it WAS rather dull! Mary Quant was probably ahead of her time when it came to earthy shades of makeup (and clothing). The 70s were very flashy… Read more »

Maybelline Fresh & Lovely Lip Colors, 1974
Very pretty pink lip colors from Maybelline! I love this vintage ad so much as it is so fresh and springlike. The model is a natural beauty dressed in PINK (my favorite color), and says “I want my lips to be delicious. To feel dewy, not dry. To gleam with clear, constant color. And I… Read more »
Mary Quant’s Jeepers Peepers Colour Makeup, 1973
This is a rather subdued ad for Mary Quant’s supposed “contribution to a more colourful world”. I almost overlooked it when doing a perusal of my vintage magazines. These Gel Eyeshadow Cremes came in six tender terrestrial shades: African Mauve, Egyptian Clay, Afghan Green, Indian Purple, China Blue, and Cypress Rose. So lovely! ~Marilyn

It appealed to the more hippie/boho/folksy 70s gals, of which I was one. I had VERY oily, acne-prone skin then, and was always looking for… Read more »
Coty’s Little Originals Pot Shop Makeup, 1972
Here we have another 1970s makeup line that was trying to capture the essence of Yardley of London’s wildly popular Pot o’ Gloss. Coty had their Little Originals makeup line that was based on the idea that color should look like it came from you, not them. “A boy likes a girl who doesn’t look… Read more »
